California Radio Control Jet Association

Well before Turbine where areound all we had was ducted Fans. One of the biggest things around back then was SPEED Runs to see who's plane would fly the fastest through the speed traps and or a hand held Radar. Speed runs with Turbine powered planes are not Allowed per AMA rules, so since about 1997-98 Speed runs have all but disappeared from most Jet rallies. back then it was a Big deal for a jet to break the 200 MPH barrier and the record for a ducted fan model was set by one of our own local jet freaks at 255 MPH. In order for that number to stick. he had to oush the plane to same speeds twice in a less than a couple of minutes. Mind you most of the speed run where donw in a manner where you would take the Jet Way up high, gun the engine and take a dive to gain speed and then right before you smacked the ground pull up and run straight and level over the radar. Jets with model Turbines are limited to fly at no more than 200 MPH here in the USA if flying under any AMA controled field. Before that ruling had come about it was not hard for a Bandit or Hot Spot to break 250-280 MPH.

here we have a Hot Spot Sport jet that can go over 240 MPH. .
